Taliban: No peace until all US troops leave Afghanistan

At least 14 members of Afghanistan’s security forces have been killed in a Taliban attack on a government compound in the north of the country.

That’s despite reports suggesting that the group’s ruling council had agreed to a ceasefire to help facilitate peace talks with the United States.

But as our Foreign Affairs editor Deborah Haynes reports, persuading fighters on the ground to drop their weapons won’t be easy.

British woman found guilty of lying about Cyprus gang rape

Lawyers for a British woman who was found guilty of lying about being gang raped in Cyprus say she will appeal against the ruling.

The 19-year-old maintains that she was attacked by 12 Israeli tourists in a hotel room and had been pressured by police into withdrawing her statement.

She will be sentenced next week and could face up to a year in jail.
