Disney and Pixar may fall under the same umbrella within ownership, but the two companies are vastly different than each other, especially when it comes to animation. There are many things Disney does you will never see Pixar do and it helps Disney stand out over the years and has allowed the company to enjoy some megahits including Frozen and Moana. See the key differences between the two companies and ways they have changed over the years.

Ever since the first release of Toy Story back in 1995, Pixar has been on the forefront of digital animation. Disney also adapted the CG style animation, but they still return to traditional styles for several films. Disney has started a new trend of turning to their live-action division for adaptations of animated films like the Jungle Book and Aladdin. Pixar saves all of their releases for theaters while Disney is not afraid to take advantage of the direct-to-video format for many films. Disney movies are also known for their magical Fairy Tales, with traditional stories and adaptations of classic stories. Pixar sticks with mostly original works and avoids any type of adaptation. The world of Disney is known for their creation of musicals, something Pixar has refused to take on over the years even though Coco came pretty close. Disney loves to crossover their characters for various shows and adventures, as seen as recently in the trailer for Wreck-It Ralph 2.
