How bad data keeps us from good AI | Mainak Mazumdar

The future economy won’t be built by people and factories, but by algorithms and artificial intelligence, says data scientist Mainak Mazumdar. But what happens when these algorithms get trained on biased data? Drawing on examples from Shanghai to New York City, Mazumdar shows how less-than-quality data leads to AI that makes wrong decisions and predictions — and reveals three infrastructural resets needed to make ethical AI possible.

When Video Game Consoles Almost Disappeared

Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer

It’s hard not to love video game consoles right? I’m sure a lot of people watching this video have had at least a few consoles in their lifetime right? It’s almost impossible to imagine life without our current Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft console because they’re so ingrained in our culture! But what if I told you that things weren’t always this way? Back in 1983, a massive crash in the video game market nearly drove consoles and video game companies to the brink of extinction and now serves as a major cautionary tale to the entire gaming world.

What caused such a massive crash? Well the Atari Shock, as it was called in Japan, can be attributed to a few huge factors. For one, the market was absolutely flooded with new consoles. Everywhere you looked, there was another company pushing a new console. On top of that, third-party developers had just recently gained the ability to produce and develop games of their own. Both those led to an extremely flooded and oversaturated market place that helped the whole thing collapse in on itself. On top of all that, things like the lack of consumer confidence, thanks to lackluster Atari releases like Pac-Man and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, and the overall rise of computer gaming all helped lead to the Video Game Crash of 1983.

Join us today as we talk all about the crash, all the factors that contributed to it, what it did in both the short-term and the long-term for video game companies, and how one little company known as Nintendo rose from the ashes and secured a foothold in the gaming world. All that coming your way right now, And once you’re done, be sure to hit that big like and subscribe button for more awesome gaming content like this. Thanks for watching TheGamer!
