How sampling transformed music | Mark Ronson

Sampling isn’t about “hijacking nostalgia wholesale,” says Mark Ronson. It’s about inserting yourself into the narrative of a song while also pushing that story forward. Watch the DJ scramble 15 TED Talks into an audio-visual omelette, and trace the evolution of “La Di Da Di,” Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick’s 1984 hit that has been reimagined for every generation since.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design — plus science, business, global issues, the arts and much more.

Chocolate & Beef Stew Recipe – SORTED

Chocolate, beer and beef might not sound like an obvious marriage of flavours… but the Belgians see this dish (called Stoverij) as proper comfort food… and it’s absolutely delicious!!

A generous ladle of the stew spooned over a mound of potato fries really hits the spot. The long, slow, gentle stew in chocolate stout served over crispy golden fries cooked in beef dripping will become a new favourite in your household.

Iguana Stew With Mexico’s Third Gender: MUNCHIES Guide to Oaxaca (Part 4)

In Episode 4 of MUNCHIES Guide to Oaxaca, host Daniel Hernández heads to Juchitán, Oaxaca, on the Isthmus region of southeastern Mexico. People speak the Zapotec language in Juchitán and enjoy foods—such as iguana, armadillo, and turtle eggs—that are unique to the region. These dishes are prized as customs that locals say go back to before the arrival of the Europeans, even though they involve federally protected species in Mexico. Daniel’s guide in Juchitán is Palo, a skilled local cook and muxe (pronounced MOO-sheh). Muxes are a special social group considered a “third gender” in Oaxaca’s isthmus.
