الاغتصاب هو جريمة معقدة من الصعب تحليلها وحصر عدد ضحاياها في العالم , حيث يمتنع عدد كبير من النساء التى تعرضنا لهذا الفعل الشنيع عن الإبلاغ عن حادثة الاعتداء
وتشير الأحصائيات التابعة للأمم المتحدة أن نسبة إبلاغ الشرطة عن جرائم الاغتصاب حالة واحدة من كل 10 حالات حول العالم , وأن جميع الدول بلا استثناء تعاني النساء فيها من شكل من أشكال الإساءة الجنسية بدرجات متفاوتة , بداية من التحرش اللفظى حتى الإغتصاب الجنسى
