In a cave deep beneath the French Alps, German wire walker Lukas Irmler this summer led a team of French cavers and slackliners to an otherworldly site around 500 yards underground. Slacklining, the sport of balancing on an elastic wire, is more commonly practiced above ground—often at high altitudes, where it’s called highlining. The practitioners of the spelunking variant are calling it “deeplining.” The expedition was sponsored by caving and alpine equipment maker Petzl.

The european car Magazine 2.0T Tuner GP Presented by Continental Tire set out to pit street-tuned European cars that came with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine or smaller from the factory on the 1.6-mile, 14-turn road course at Streets of Willow Springs and on the wind tunnel dynamometer at World Motorsports. The challenge drew some of the finest street-level Volkswagen and Audi – GTI, Golf R, S3 and others – and all were outfitted with a set of Continental’s new Ultra High Performance (UHP) ExtremeContact Sport tires.
