Minecraft is not only one of the biggest video games of all time, but it is also one of the biggest pieces of media in all of pop culture. The game turned eight years old in May and still has hundreds of secrets that most players aren’t aware of. When you first start Minecraft, regardless of the system, you are greeted by a friendly splash screen. What’s interesting about this screen is the little yellow text that has hundreds of random, funny phrases. While exploring the randomly generated world, one of the best treasures you can come across are music discs, which can be played on a diamond made record player. If a record player doesn’t make your house feel like a home, then maybe you should add some paintings, which use art from 26 real paintings.
If you play Minecraft with friends, maybe you’d like to spy on them using spectator mode which also allows you to look through enemy eyes. With the game’s popularity, schools have tried using an Education Edition of the game to teach lessons about collaboration. One of Minecraft’s more common crops, the pumpkin, can be used to make many things from a snow golem to a delicious pumpkin pie. With such a large community of players, it makes a lot of sense to have a Minecraft convention, one that at most had over 12,000 in attendance. Speaking of numbers, Minecraft is the second best selling game of all time, only behind Tetris. The developers of Minecraft have been known to add some silly stuff to the game for April Fool’s Day. The original Minecraft was known simply as Cave Game and only had two types of blocks. Without further ado, here are 10 things you didn’t know about Minecraft. Enjoy!
