The Nintendo consoles have had their fair share of classic titles. From Super Mario to the Legend of Zelda to Kirby and even early Final Fantasy titles, Nintendo consoles were the cream of the crop back in the day due to their incredible libraries of games. That being said, there have been plenty of Nintendo games that didn’t end up on store shelves whether it’s due to an insufficient budget, a sudden change in leadership or something completely out of the developer’s control. In the end, video game companies are running a business and sometimes, games are just not meant to be released.

Donkey Kong Racing was supposed to be a released for the Nintendo GameCube as a rival to Mario Kart: Double Dash, but after developer Rare was bought by Microsoft in 2002, plans changed. Super Kid Icarus was announced by Nintendo to be released on the SNES as the successor to the cult classic Kid Icarus, but no news ever came about it’s development. Cheetahmen II is known as one of the worst games of all-time and is supposedly so bad the developers decided to scrap the project altogether. Dwagons is not just a cute pronunciation of the mythical dragon, it was supposed to be a gem of the 16-bit golden age. Pilotwings was one of the first games ever released for the Super Nintendo and was highly successful, but a sequel never came about. Without the magic of sound effects, we’d have some pretty boring movies. Most of the sound effects recorded on a set aren’t usable and sometimes, the sounds don’t exist. So it’s up to the foley artists and sound designers to create the sound effects for these larger than life effects. For instance, how did they make the sound effect for the iconic lightsaber? It’s a pretty analog response. They changed things up a bit in the sequel for a certain red saber, but the core sound remains the same. The AT M6 walkers from The Last Jedi also have their sound effects rooted in animal noises and machinery. Animal noises play a big part in designing classic sound effects. Take a look at the T-Rex from Jurassic Park. For such a menacing creature, it’s sound effect can be traced back to a terrier and a whale. The Balrog from Lord of the Rings also has some animal connections. When the sound designers aren’t using a cinder block for its movement, they used the sounds of donkeys and horses for its roars. Logan may have used metal claws in the X Men films, which are just blades coming in and out of sheaths, but the fleshy sounds of the blades piercing the skin came courtesy of chickens and turkeys. Terminator 2 is recognized as an all time classic, with top notch visual effects. The sound effects can be traced back to the sound crew saying “whoosh” in a microphone to get the wind effects. The ringwraiths in the Lord of the Rings may sound scary in the final cut, but their sound effects are just the sound of plastic cups and bowls scraping together. The giant boulder in Indiana Jones is actually just an idle car moving over rocks. Iron Man’s armor and that of the Iron Patriot can find some of their sound effects in the RC cars and planes found in any retailer store like Toys R Us.
