A vital part within a story is that the protagonist may struggle against a villain, but are all villains truly evil, or do they have some sort of messed up origin or backstory that may justify their vile acts? Whether it be one of Spiderman’s most well-known adversaries such as Electro, to Black Panther’s mercenary and high-kill count having cousin, Killmonger, or even the metal-controlling mutant known as Magneto, there is no shortage of tragic childhoods that shaped these villains into what they would become.
DC fans may know how insanely twisted the Joker is, but even he has his boundaries as Marvel’s iconic Nazi villain, Red Skull, was too much for the Joker to bear! Thor’s adopted brother, Loki, also had a rough childhood, which may explain why he would always be scheming. Strangely enough, even the heroes like the Hulk would be affected in the long run and become a rather grotesque villain! Even the Goddess of Death, Hela, had no boundaries as she went as far as slaying and enslaving her own people. However, the evil artificial intelligence known as Ultron did not discriminate as he hated all humans equally, regardless of genetic makeup, affiliation, or appearance, he wanted them all extinct!
The body count of these villains is child’s play in comparison to that of Galactus, a force of nature responsible for consuming countless amounts of worlds in order to satiate his hunger. Shockingly, even a high body count is pale in comparison to the vastly obscene things Thanos had done to his own children, his parents, and even his own homeworld! There is no shortage of messed up origin stories within this ScreenRant list!
