Many of us grew up loving the weirdness that was the 90s cartoons. Some of them are still on TV to this day, showcasing their diehard fans and their popularity. But some of these shows would be very different creations were they to debut in 2018. Some of the stuff that happened in those shows just wouldn’t fly as a first impression today. For instance, we all know about the Apu controversy in the Simpsons right now and that’s just one of the many race related issues in this video. Family Guy was a pretty racist show in its early days and got away with telling some pretty awful jokes. Likewise, South Park got away with a lot and gained a huge following for what it was saying, but it’s hard to be sure if it could do the same thing if it launched today. Then there’s the weird stuff. Rocko’s Modern Life, Cow and Chicken and Ren and Stimpy may look like your average 90s cartoon but these shows are not only weird but pretty gross and raunchy-or violent-in their respective right. Johnny Bravo seems like an alright guy until he ends up being a creep and in the age of the #Metoo movement, he’s gotta go. Beavis and Butthead seemingly encouraged pyromania back in the 90s and Futurama’s depiction of Bender alone is worthy to raise a few eyebrows these days. Ed, Edd and Eddy may seem like one of the most appropriate shows on this list at first glance, and definitely one of the most 90s, but a closer look will reveal some very adult content hiding in plain sight.
