Three migrants intercepted at the English channel

Three more migrants have been intercepted after trying to take a small boat from France to Britain.

That’s after 40 people crossed the channel towards Dover on Christmas Day prompting border officials to step up their attempts to target people smugglers.

Indonesia tsunami: The search for survivors continues

People in Indonesia are being urged to stay away from the coast – after 420 people were killed by a tsunami.

Heavy rain has been delaying rescue efforts – with thousands of people still cut off – with high waves expected.

The warning comes on the anniversary of the 2004 Asian earthquake and tsunami which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

Sky’s Ashish Joshi reports from the coastal region of western Java on Indonesia’s Sunda Strait, where the tsunami hit.

Michael Gove criticises Japan for restarting commercial whaling

The Environment Secretary Michael Gove has strongly criticised Japanese plans to restart commercial whale hunting.

Japan says it’s withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission in July — more than 30 years after a ban on hunting whales came into force.

Environmental groups have said they are concerned the move could lead to a rise in the numbers of whales killed… and threaten the numbers of some species.
