Labour has pledged to start a wave of nationalisations in its first 100 days in office.

Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has promised to bring rail, mail, water and energy and broadband back into public ownership – a move that would be “fiscally neutral”.

But are these pledges realistic? Helen-Ann Smith takes a closer look in today’s Campaign Check.

The days of sitting on the couch while you play video games are coming to an end. With Valve’s Index VR, gaming is going to be a workout. It’s also not going to be a gimmick.

Why? Because of Half-Life: Alyx. Not to be confused with the street-style brand, the new installment in Valve’s marquee series is going to be an only-VR experience. Now, there will definitely be some complaints about the price of admission. And rightly so, the Valve VR setup costs $1000. But based on what we’ve seen so far, it looks like it could be worth emptying your savings.

In Alyx, Valve is taking the physics-based, puzzle-heavy FPS genre that they created and reformatting it for a new era. It looks like they plan to be, once again, the trailblazers in a new era of gaming. But this time, instead of the graphically impressive console-shooter, it’ll be for VR. Will Valve change gaming forever, again?

Russia banned from all global sport by World Anti-Doping Agency

The World Anti-Doping Agency has banned Russia from all major international sporting events, including the olympics and paraylmpics for four years.

The president of WADA said an investigation found that Moscow planted fake evidence and deleted files linked to positive doping tests that could have helped identify drug cheats.

Individual athletes will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag if they can prove they are not implicated by doping in Russia.
