An alternate take of the Picard-Kirk horseback scene. Kirk compares the Nexus to orbital skydiving; exciting for the first few minutes but not really accomplishing anything. Picard claims that “you needn’t be on the bridge of a starship to make a difference” and his request to “come back with me” is also said with more gusto than in the theatrical version. As the scene continues, the children bring Picard a Christmas present as he marvels at the beauty of the tree. Picard eagerly opens his gift. The smallest boy remarks “It’s a SACK-tent!” Picard happily laughs and replies “Yes, it’s a sextant.” Inquiring where they obtained it, they reply “it’s a secret.” Picard declares that makes it a doubly-special gift.
