Dan Corrigan reached deep in his two-wheeled bag of tricks yesterday to win the Red Bull Manny Mania USA National Final at Woodward East in central Pennsylvania. Dan grew up 115 miles away in Hanover, Pennsylvania, but he had never been able to attend Camp Woodward until winning the Baltimore U.S. Manny Mania Am event and earning a trip here. He stamped another ticket with his first place finish, and will now be heading to NYC to represent the United States at the Red Bull Manny Mania Am World Final at Coleman Park on August 18.

الطائر الأصغر في العالم
أيا كان حجم الحيوانات الصغيرة التي رأيتها من قبل، فإنك لم تشاهد بعد الطائر الأصغر حجماً على وجه الأرض.
إنه الطائر الطنان أو (Bee Hummigbird) أصغر الطيور حجماً على سطح الأرض، موطنه الأصلي كوبا وتحديداً في جزيرة الشباب أو Isla de la Juventud، ويبلغ طول الطائر الطنان 5.5 سنتيمتر متضمناً الذيل والمنقار، ويزن 1.6 غرام، بينما قد تكون أحجام الإناث من هذه الطيور أكبر بقليل.
وتتميز هذه الطيور بالعديد من الخصال منها أنها شديدة الحماس وتتميز بشجاعة شديدة في مواجهة الطيور الأكبر حجماً بل ومهاجمتها، خاصة لحماية أبنائها، وتتمتع الطيور الطنانة بسرعة فائقة في الطيران تصل إلى 80 كيلومتراً بالساعة، وتصل عدد ضربات أجنحتها السريعة إلى حوالي 80 ضربة في الثانية، وفي موسم التزاوج إلى 200 ضربة في الثانية، ومن هنا اشتق اسمها “الطنان” من صوت ضربات أجنحتها.
ويذكر أن ضربات قلب هذه الطيور الصغيرة تصل إلى 500 ضربة في الدقيقة الواحدة في وقت الراحة، وعند الطيران أو القيام بأي أنشطة تصل إلى 1200 ضربة في الدقيقة، ويصل متوسط المدة التي تعيشها طيور الطنان إلى 8 سنوات كحد أقصى، ونتيجة لإقبال الإنسان على صيد هذه الطيور تسبب الإنسان في إبادة العديد من الفصائل المختلفة للطائر الطنان وقضى عليها تماماً.
