Erik Schlangen: A “self-healing” asphalt

Paved roads are nice to look at, but they’re easily damaged and costly to repair. Erik Schlangen demos a new type of porous, asphalt made of simple materials with an astonishing feature: When cracked, it can be “healed” by induction heating. (Filmed at TEDxDelft.)

Cape Town’s famed Table Mountain was the perfect backdrop for the world’s top 24 kiteboarders to face-off in the unique ‘flag out’ competition format. In the end it was Jesse Richman from the USA who managed to edge out Sam Light and Nick Jacobsen to emerge victorious.
