Saying the gaming industry can be competitive is an understatement along the lines of saying sometimes EA makes questionable choices. This industry is a cutthroat jungle with millions of dollars on the line and no real way of guaranteeing which projects are going to make money and which ones are going to flop. Perhaps the biggest rivalry in the industry concerns two of the biggest companies, Sony and Microsoft and their line of PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This fierce rivalry has stretched across decades with the two vying for several markets, including the lucrative online play one. Fueled by games like Halo, Call of Duty and Fortnite, the chance to shoot at your friends is one of the biggest money-making opportunities in the industry. For most of the history of these two companies, they have decided to separate their player bases into two camps for each console. This was to encourage friends to pressure their other friends into buying the same console so that they could game together. Now, it looks like that trend is changing. Fortnite now has access to both PS4 and Xbox One players, an idea that once sounded insane. Now it is a reality that could point to a brighter future for all gamers who just want to get their friends together and joyfully prove how much they suck.
