The Red Bull X-Alps is the world’s toughest adventure race. It’s a bold claim – but one it surely deserves. The rules are simple: Athletes must race across the Alps in the fastest time possible, by foot or paraglider, over a straight-line distance of 1,038km.

Day 1: Racers were greeted with some intense heat off the start line on, but after an exciting start on foot, they reached their first point of flight and set off paragliding into the Alps.
