Flounder, XO Pippies & Caviar Waffles: Chef’s Night Out with Andrew McConnell

We spent the night with Melbourne’s culinary darling Andrew McConnell, the chef behind the city’s restaurant empire of Supernormal, Cumulus Inc., and Cutler & Co.

His crew—which includes his brother Sean, colleagues Chris and Jayden, as well as his hairdresser Frank—starts at Yu-U, a Japanese gem hidden in one of Melbourne’s iconic laneways, for eel tempura, yakitori, and a lot of sake. Next, it’s Bar Exuberante in Richmond for rum, and then to soak up the booze, back into the city to eat at late-night Chinese food institution Supper Inn, for beer and doughnuts dunked in XO pippie sauce.

Tipsy, the gang then heads back to Andrew’s kitchen after-hours at Cumulus Up, where they fry up some Camembert, porcini mushrooms as big as your head, and caviar on waffles. Or was it waffles on caviar? Either way, delicious.

Stirling Moss: Racing Legend and Mille Miglia Champion – Pebble Beach Week

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance brings together not just the cars that made history, but the people who made it with them. Let’s meet one of the legends who will be at the 65th Concours d’Elegance this weekend.

In the late 1920’s, Brescia, Italy was about to lose the Italian Grand Prix to Milan. With a group of wealthy associates, they decided to create a race better and more epic than any Grand Prix. They decided to have a thousand mile race from Brescia to Rome and back, and call it The Mille Miglia.

The Mille Miglia was an open-road endurance race which took place in Italy from 1927 to 1957. This event was usually dominated by Italian drivers, but three races were won by foreign racers. One of those racers was Stirling Moss.

Stirling Moss was Britain’s top racing driver of the 1950’s and early 1960’s. He won 212 of the 529 races he competed in, including 16 Grand Prix. Moss set the Mille Miglia record finishing in 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds, in his Mercedes Benz 300 SLR. Listen to how Stirling Moss set this record on such a treacherous and epic race!
