35 Years of Mario: NES to Switch

Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer

Is there any video game character as iconic as Super Mario? The answer is no! Mario is about to turn 35! Let’s all wish him a happy birthday by taking some time to look over the wonderful games that he has brought to us over the years.

His start was about as big as big gets. The arcade game Donkey Kong was a huge hit and is still referenced as one of the greatest 80s arcade games of all time. During his Jumpman days, he reigned supreme as kids dumped quarter after quarter so that they could beat up that mean ape.

That’s not really what Mario is known for though. No, his real gaming career started when he made the big leap into home consoles with the NES’s Super Mario Bros. This landmark title crafted so many characters ranging from Peach, Bowser, Luigi and more. There are few games that can claim to have had quite the same effect on gaming history.

From there the hits just kept coming! Watch as we go through his exciting Super Nintendo life ranging from the big titles to the spin-offs that covered all of his fun extracurricular activities. Then we’ll go into him hitting big with the 3-D titles that changed the face of gaming forever all the way to today. He’s also made the journey from your television to your phone and beyond!

So let’s wish Mario a happy birthday together! Here is the exciting history of Super Mario!

PS5 Is The Showcase Champion

Sony’s PS5 finally has a price, and it’s exactly the same as the XBox’s: $399 USD for the digital, and $499 for the standard. With a launch date just a handful of days after the Series X and S take the shelves on Friday, November 13th, 2020. If you’re good and you get one before Jason Voorhees gets you, you’ll have a great many great games to look forward to. Sony confirmed that FInal Fantasy XVI, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, and God of War Ragnarok are coming as PS5 exclusives (with FFXVI also available on PC), and we got extended looks at some of the most anticipated games of the year, like Demon’s Souls, Oddworld Soulstorm, Fortnite, Dethloop, Resident Evil: Village, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, Hogwarts: Legacy, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and, of course, fan favourite Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

We’re going to go through the details of the Playstation Plus deal that will give gamers access to eighteen era defining PS4 titles at launch and compare that to what the XBox Game Pass Ultimate is offering Series X and S heads when they get their machine.

And ultimately, we’re going to argue over who won the console showcase. Sure, XBox announced their price and launch date first, but Sony matched them almost to the day for the day and down to the dollar for the price. So what will it come down to? Is it a battle of the peripherals? Graphics? We’re thinking it comes down to the reason you buy the console: games. Which exclusives you want will guide your spirit and your wallet to the console your gaming thumbs desire the most. Sony is the favourite, as it has won the console wars before, and decisively, but XBox isn’t completely out yet!

The Evolution Of Gaming PC’s

The dawn of personal computing over the course of the 20th century was followed in parallel by the advent of gaming. Personal computers and video games have always been the perfect match. But if you’ve grown up anytime in the last two decades, gaming’s early origins may surprise you. PCs weren’t always the juggernauts in comparison to their console counterparts. The entire gaming industry, and technology as a whole, was a lot simpler and a lot murkier.

Today, we’re going to take a look at the evolution of PC gaming. And before anyone starts typing out what we’ve missed, know this is a highlight reel: We’re going to be talking about the big picture. Starting with where it all began we’ll make our way to what PC gaming looks like right now and we’ll finish off with where we think PC gaming is headed. We’re going to be talking about games from the era of the Atari 2600 all the way up to the PlayStation 5 (and maybe even PlayStation 6), so strap in and enjoy the ride!

10 Times Greed Ruined Games

Games have been commercial products for most of the medium’s existence, and it stands to reason the production of these things isn’t always entirely based on a business’s desire to make really good games. There have been countless cases over the years of games being pushed to release earlier than they should or promised content not making the cut for the final build of the game or games promising things they simply never deliver on, but as the times have changed, so has gaming and so have the ways in which games can be manipulated and influenced by greed.

Today, gaming is more popular than ever before; the market is larger than ever before. Because of this, there’s more money to be made now than ever before. Rather than enjoy the boom of the medium and rake in the profit, companies increase their scope and the size of their target audience and try to make the most money they possibly can.

Unfortunately, this ambition has serious consequences for game development. Games today can be built in manipulative, deceptive ways that try to force the consumer’s hand in spending more and more money, often on top of already-expensive purchases. We’re here to take a look at 10 times in modern history that greed has reared its ugly face in gaming and ended up ruining everything.
