There have been countless cases over the years of games being pushed to release earlier than they should or promised content not making the cut for the final build of the game or games promising things they simply never deliver on, but as the times have changed, so has gaming and so have the ways in which games can be manipulated and influenced by greed.

Today, gaming is more popular than ever before; the market is larger than ever before. Because of this, there’s more money to be made now than ever before. Rather than enjoy the boom of the medium and rake in the profit, companies increase their scope and the size of their target audience and try to make the most money they possibly can.

Unfortunately, this ambition has serious consequences for game development. Games today can be built in manipulative, deceptive ways that try to force the consumer’s hand in spending more and more money, often on top of already-expensive purchases.
