How Nintendo Broke The Mold

Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer

How did Nintendo break the mold? How did a company that made Cards 140 years learn to dominate in the console market without officially participating in the very public and resource sapping console wars? We believe it is strategy, vision, and patience.

Nintendo has been in business long enough to know its identity. When you truly know yourself, then you can look for the appropriate mate. In life, like in business, you attract what you are. And what Nintendo is is a fun loving machine. We at The Gamer couldn’t tell you how many TERAFLOPS the Switch has, if any, and if you’re concerned about that kind of thing, you probably wouldn’t be looking in Nintendo’s direction at playtime. And the feeling would be mutual.

Nintendo is like a group of kids – just looking for a good time. And it provides. It finds ways to entertain, innovate and (sometimes) educate. It’s not necessarily looking to impress or wow you with numbers, but with an overall experience. Maybe inventing and selling Hanafuda cards over the years has familiarized Nintendo with ways people get together and play, and it’s going to spend its companies long life investing, marketing, and selling to the fun lovers of the world, rather than fight over the best of the best seekers that Microsoft and Sony are fighting over.

Why You Should Still Buy A Sony PSP

Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer

Sony has come a long way over the past 16 years. Why am I specifically saying the last 16 years? Because that’s how long they’ve been in the portable gaming market. Sony released two home consoles before they came out with their first portable console, the aptly named PlayStation Portable. It was a great console that gave us everything we needed at the time, but is it worth buying today?

The PSP had such a good library of games, it’s actually shocking. Whether it’s Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Tekken: Dark Resurrection or any of the other 1365 games on the console, you’re almost always guaranteed to have fun. But the console isn’t just limited to PSP games, you’re actually able to play PS1 games on the system as well. It’s a great way to experience the classics. The PSP did more than just play video games, it also doubled as an MP3 player in a time when MP3 players were all the rage. On top of all that, it’s a very affordable console. You could get a PSP and a package of games for just $100.

There’s more to whether or not the PSP is worth buying in 2021 than just that so enjoy the video, let me know if you’re interested in buying a PSP in the comments section below and don’t forget to subscribe to TheGamer for more gaming tech content.

It seems Hollywood everyman Dick Richards knows no bounds. This time, we find Dick back at Universal Studios in the 90s on the heels of the massive success of Jurassic Park, and the beginnings of a movie franchise behemoth.

Why There Are So Many Jurassic Park Sequels
Before Jurassic World and a time riddled with movie sequels and multi-platform cinematic universe commercial conglomerates, there was just the Jurassic Park movie, and the.. idea of a sequel. That pivotal moment when Jurassic Park went from one awesomely original spectacular movie, into another cinematic blockbuster franchise. Except, unlike other story rich movie franchises, like Marvel or Star Wars, with plenty of material to explore through sequels or a movie trilogy, Jurassic Park just really didn’t have much more of a reason to make a sequel other than to sell exclusive dinosaur toys. But, dollar signs are dollar signed, and Dick Richards knows a golden dinosaur-sized goose egg when he sees one, so thus spawned Jurassic Park: The Lost World.

Playstation, Xbox & Nintendo Controller Showdown

Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer

When gamers compare the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller, the Xbox Series X controller and the Nintendo Switch Pro controller, they often look at which one is more ergonomic or which one has better triggers. It’s very rare that they just compare the designs of each controller, which is exactly what I plan to do in this video.

Every controller has been shaped by the controllers that came before it. Look at the DualSense for example, Sony has had symmetrical thumbsticks since the PS1 days and has never changed them. The light bar is still there from the DualShock 4. As for the Xbox Series X controller, it’s a marginal improvement over the Xbox One controller, which sounds bad, but when you think about it, the Xbox One controller was pretty much perfect, so not a lot of room for improvement there. That being said, the disc-d’pad hybrid is a really big step forward. It’s easily the best d-pad on any controller. The Nintendo Switch Pro controller shares a lot of similarities with the Xbox One controller. They both have offset thumbsticks and great d-pads. They even have the same face button lettering, but its the style of the Switch Pro controller that sets it apart.

There’s more to each controller than just that so enjoy the video, let me know which controller design is your favorite in the comments section below and don’t forget to subscribe to TheGamer for more gaming tech content.

The First Video Game Console Ever

Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer

We’re going to talk about the first ever home video game console: the Magnavox Odyssey. We’re going to talk about how it’s inventor, Ralph Baer, came up with the idea, and how that led to the 40 billion dollar industry that has allowed our YouTube channel to survive and thrive.

I wouldn’t be playing 100 Gigabyte games on my computer if it weren’t for the Odyssey, which doesn’t look all that impressive by today’s standards. In fact, we think most peeps would rather play a live action board game than lay an overlay over their TV screens and play a precursor to Pong. Retro gaming is a wonderful pastime, as long as you don’t go too far back.

On the other hand, imagine living in a time where there was no such thing as a console. Imagine looking at your TV in 1951 and saying to yourself: “hey – I’d like to play that” when no such thing had ever been done, and then 21 years later in 1972, that’s a reality. And then imagine fast forwarding to the last year of your life in 2014 and there are video games consoles very widely available in which you can play video games in which you can immerse yourself in a realistic simulation of the war you actually fought in 64 years prior. Amazing, no?

6 Of Nintendo’s Greatest Accomplishments

Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer

Everyone loves Nintendo. Even the latest Nintendo Direct, which wasn’t exactly their most impressive showing, still garnered millions of views just to get a taste of what the company might have in store for the future. We may not have gotten any footage of Breath of the Wild 2, but we still got the promise of more Nintendo brilliance to come. The company has perhaps done more for the gaming industry than any other possibly could.

So what are Nintendo’s greatest accomplishments? That is a terribly difficult question to answer. For a video that is roughly ten minutes, I will hit some of the biggest games the company has brought into the industry. You likely know at least two I will mention. I will then touch on how these franchises have shaped gaming, directly influencing some of the biggest games that are hitting shelves today. It is hard to make a great game, much harder to make one that is still influential decades later.

I will also touch on the hardware accomplishments from the controllers to the innovative tech. Nintendo may not be at the front of the gaming hardware world anymore, but they shaped the world we exist in today. Finally I will touch on the philosophy behind it all that led to Nintendo becoming the powerhouse it is today. Shigeru Miyamoto’s brilliance built a company and an industry around it.

Let’s jump right into the biggest advancements Nintendo has made in the gaming industry.
