Japan is no stranger to weird things. In fact, you can’t come up with great ideas without glossing over the super weird ones. After all, they’re the ones who gave us some of the biggest cultural phenomenons in the world such as anime, Pokemon, and instant ramen. But they’ve also given us some pretty strange inventions like the earcatcher pillow, which creates a hole for your ear so that you can listen to the TV or put earbuds in while lying down. Also, square watermelons. We mean, it looks cool, but it just makes us feel dirty.

In this video, we’re going to look at gaming tech and accessories that can only be found in Japan. Some of these items are clear winners, still showing up today, while others left us scratching our heads. We’ve all had the thought of feeling pain while playing a shooter, but is that really something that would do well? What about the first concept for VR and an immersive 3D experience at home? Obviously a great idea, but is it worth wearing a TV on your head? Join us as we run through some of the most interesting pieces of obscure Japanese exclusive gaming tech. Let us know what kinds of accessories you wish were invented and how you would use them!
