Ant-Man and the Wasp will be the third Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of 2018 and the twentieth movie in the franchise overall – and we’re really excited about it! The movie will see Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne returning to the big screen and teaming up as the titular heroes to join forces against Hannah John-Kame’s villainous Ghost. The Marvel Cinematic Universe origins of the pairing are very different to those depicted in the comics, however, and in this video we’ll take a look at how they came to be a duo in the source material. Classically, the Ant-Man and the Wasp duo is composed of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne – who are actually played by Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – but they are depicted as being older characters in the movies and we’re yet to discover anything about their origins. Surely Ant-Man and the Wasp will delve deeper into them but, in the meantime, we’ll look at the origins of the original pairing in the comic books. Pym first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 in 1962 (though he didn’t appear as Ant-Man until Tales to Astonish #35 later that same year) and van Dyne first appeared in Tales to Astonish #44 in 1963. They met when Janet went to Hank for help after her father – a former colleague of Hank’s – was killed by an alien. Hank immediately found her attractive and gave her similar superpowers to himself, which allowed them to become a superhero duo. We hope you enjoy the video!
