The Evolution Of NBA2k21

NBA 2K21 is here and with it comes the next installment of the super successful 2K franchise. Given the 2K series is usually always the best selling sports game of the year, it shouldn’t be a surprise to know that anticipation for 2K21 has been high. But have you ever stopped to wonder just how this franchise got to be where it is today? Where did everything start and how did it become such a powerhouse in the gaming world?

The original game, NBA 2K, was released only for the Sega Dreamcast back in 1999 and since then, every year has seen a new installment and new upgrades that continue to try to give sports gamers the best experience possible while playing a basketball video game. And it’s had an amazing history. Just look back at things like NBA 2K10 adding the MyPlayer mode which would completely reinvent everything about the game, or fun editions like 2K11 which included the Jordan Challenge mode which allowed you to try to mimic some of Michael Jordan’s most memorable accomplishments. It’s versions and modes like these that really helped solidify the 2K series as the most popular sports game franchise ever.

And it just keeps getting more popular. NBA 2K20 was the second highest grossing video game last year, proving the desire for a yearly basketball game is at an all-time high. And with some cool tweaks and special added features, including a special edition honoring Kobe Bryant called the Mamba Forever edition, it looks like 2K21 will be another massive hit.
