The Cantonese Char Siu McRib is Here

Calvin Eng of Bonnie’s in Brooklyn is in the Munchies Test Kitchen making his inventive twist on an elusive fast food classic: a Cantonese-inspired char siu McRib. Based on the McDonald’s sandwich, this version features a classic Cantonese char siu preparation that consists of barbecuing pork and flavoring it with a red-colored sauce. Calvin’s sandwich is made with pork ribs and is marinated with his mixture of flavorings like hoisin sauce, ginger, fermented red tofu, malt sugar, and more. It all comes together with some onions, pickles, and a generous amount of spicy Chinese mustard. Check out the recipe here: https://www.vice.com/en/article/dy8abw/char-siu-mcrib-recipe
