The next generation of consoles will be different than any other. We’re not talking about the higher resolution, nor does this have anything to do with ray tracing. The whole landscape, the who’s who of the console world, is getting turned on its head.

While the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Project Scarlett will technically be separate consoles, Microsoft and Sony will be uniting against a common enemy: Google.

Since the announcement of the Google Stadia, the not-quite-finished streaming system where game processing is outsourced to the cloud, the traditional console-makers are feeling nervous. A new, big player on the scene, especially one as big as Google, is a force to be reckoned with. So, Microsoft and Sony are teaming up and pooling their resources to make sure they don’t get shouldered out of the market.

They’ll be collaborating on cloud gaming and also on AI. Sony has the technology and the user-friendliness, while Microsoft has the cloud infrastructure. Today we’ll be explaining how it changes the next-gen landscape.
