Sony’s PS5 will be hitting shelves during the 2020 holiday season. We don’t even have an official announcement trailer, but rumour has it that the big reveal will be coming in February. Sony has revealed a lot of specs that we can look forward to when the console is officially released, but the design of the new system and its new controller has been underwraps with the exception of a few interesting leaked images. Along with the official and unofficial information is a confirmation from CEO Jim Ryan that the PS5 will be backwards compatible–and this might mean more than you think. From cross generational play to improved gameplay of older PlayStation titles, the backwards compatibility of the system might be a huge draw for some gamers. Is it a gimmick, or will Sony really be improving and innovating the concept of backwards compatibility?
