XBox may have tilted the console wars in their favour as they made a monopoly level purchase of Bethesda Studios and Zenimax Media Inc. With Halo Infinite pushed to next year, Microsoft Corp. is looking to make that matter as little as possible with its ownership of Zenimax’s biggest titles to its assets ledger. Big time franchises like The Elder Scrolls, Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, The Evil Within, Wet, Fallout, Dishonored, and Prey amongst others might tide over many gamers waiting to put on Master Chief’s helmet.

What does that mean for the console wars? Although we want to put fuel on that fire as it is the bread and butter of our news real, what Microsoft Corp. has been strategizing to take over is the cloud. A monopoly over one of the fastest growing sectors in the entertainment industry is where it’s planting its seeds for its future money tree. The licence to print money, in theory, will come from subscription to its service. And once you get used to having hundreds of games at your disposal and the ease at which they will load will be the hook, and Bethesda game games will help you stay. They want everyone in the world who can afford it to think of Game Pass first when they think of where to play games the way they think of the Ford when they think of trucks or the way they (used to) think of Windows when they think of an OS. Once their name becomes synonymous with all access, Playstation might be in real trouble, as when those monthly subscription dollars start coming in, XBox may buy all the developers and studios, and become the one stop shop they’ve always wanted to be, like they did for operating systems with Windows 95 in ‘95.
