Michael Gove criticises Japan for restarting commercial whaling

The Environment Secretary Michael Gove has strongly criticised Japanese plans to restart commercial whale hunting.

Japan says it’s withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission in July — more than 30 years after a ban on hunting whales came into force.

Environmental groups have said they are concerned the move could lead to a rise in the numbers of whales killed… and threaten the numbers of some species.
