Harry Potter Theory: Was Dumbledore Lying About Grindelwald?

Spoiler Alert! Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald shocked fans in it’s finale by revealing the true name of Credence Barebones. Instead of being a nameless orphan living in New York, the dark wizard Grindelwald claims he’s in fact the long lost brother of Albus Dumbledore, Aurelius. It was a huge twist that no one saw coming, not even Rita Skeeter when she wrote a book about Dumbledore during the events of the Deathly Hallows novel. Which leads us to wonder how reliable that book really is-or anything we know about Albus Dumbledore really. This led us to wonder just what was Albus telling the truth about and we came to the conclusion that there’s a very strong possibility we’ve been lied to about the events that transpired in 1945, when Albus and Grindelwald are said to have had their epic duel. But now that there’s a new Dumbledore added to the mix, is it possible that Albus Dumbledore wasn’t the only Dumbledore involved in that duel? Was he even present? By analysing the meaning of Aurelius and taking note of what Ezra Miller has said about the character and J.K. Rowling’s writing methods, we’re being promised that all of these big reveals will pay off. All signs seem to point to Aurelius playing a massive role by the end of the fifth film and what better way than to have an Obscurial fight alongside his powerful brother against the dark lord Grindelwald, who is in possession of the Elder Wand? Time will only tell but so far, we’re pretty convinced that there’s more to the simple Dumbledore versus Grindelwald story we’ve known ever since The Philosopher’s Stone book was released all those years ago.
