The new Alienware UFO that Dell unveiled at CES 2020 turned plenty of heads. It looks like the lovechild of a gaming PC and a Nintendo Switch. It has all the features of the Nintendo Switch, but it plays PC games as opposed to Switch games. No doubt, it’s one of the most unique UMPCs (ultra-mobile PC) that we’ve ever seen. Most UMPCs aren’t designed for gaming, but the Alienware UFO sure is. It comes with an 8-inch 1200p touchscreen, an Intel Core i5 CPU and integrated Intel graphics. It’s not perfect for gaming, but there’s definitely a lot to like in that package.

It’s not the first gaming UMPC of its kind though. The Razer Edge and GPD Win both had the same idea, albeit with much worse execution. The Razer Edge was released in 2013 and advertised as a gaming tablet, but it was more of a gaming UMPC than anything else. It was versatile like the Switch, capable of being played in many different ways. The GPD Win and GPD Win 2 were both less technologically impressive as they were more designed for retro games and emulation. One thing’s for sure, none of these innovative handheld devices would be possible without Nintendo.

There’s more to why handheld gaming is making a comeback than just that so enjoy the video, let me know if you’d like to get an Alienware UFO in the comments section below and don’t forget to subscribe to TheGamer for more gaming content.
