Animals rights activists captured video of vendors openly selling and preparing dog meat on June 16, a few days before the beginning of the festival. The video also shows live dogs tightly packed into cages, destined to be slaughtered and sold. Thousands of dogs, as well as cats, are slaughtered for the festival, which was founded in 2010. In May, Yulin sources from two animal rights groups reported that the local government was considering a ban. However, these videos show the sale of dog meat did take place this year.
