Tomb Raider: The Evolution of Lara Croft in Video Games

Tomb Raider made Lara Croft into the female heroine she is today, but it wouldn’t have happened without the genius game developers and character designers. Subscribe to The Gamer! Click here: https://goo.gl/9cpWgf

Lara Croft is one of the most iconic female characters in gaming history. Both men and women alike easily recognize her character for her good looks and her wits, but it seems her appearance in game is constantly changing and being upgraded with the times and graphics of games.

We’ve had the opportunity to track the Tomb Raider series for over twenty years and we’ve been extremely impressed with what we’ve seen.

Of course, there are certain mishaps which were quickly created like the 1996 block version of Lara Croft who in no way resembled her promotional model. We had to give the designers a break though because 3D character design was a fairly new concept and they were working with a very bare bones engine to make such a remarkable game!

We’re going to fast forward a few years where Core Design was part of the game design team because, by the end of it, you could just feel the burn out. When they were done, they had produced a new Tomb Raider game every year for an astounding five years straight and it was time to pass the reins over to a new team.

Crystal Dynamics came to the rescue in 2006 and basically saved the franchise from doom. Things had become so bad, movie companies were blaming the bad games for lackluster box office sales so they came in the nick of time to save one of our favorite gaming franchises. And we can’t thank Square Enix enough for bringing the best version of Lara Croft to us. A version so realistic, it’s basically burned into our retinas forever.

So let’s check out how Lara Croft has evolved over the last twenty years.

How It Should Have Ended

Possibly our most anticipated episode next to the massive character juggernaut that undoubtedly will be Infinity War. Before Justice League was in theaters we had geared ourselves up to experience the final chapter in the Controversial Dark Snyder DC Trilogy, full of themes about responsibility, temptations of power, gods vs humans type stuff. It was going to be this awesome bow on the end of the Justice League hype train and we were gonna have our work cut out for us for sure. Then the film came out and it was just… meh. Like play it safe, change everything we’ve established Meh. So the question was… Well what do we do with this?! After a LOT of discussion. We decided to break the fourth wall in a sense and give our artistic expression of what the Justice League has become while also keeping true to keeping things HISHE.

Enter the Mighty Martha. Since Justice League is the finale (pretending to be just the beginning) of this trilogy. We decided it was time for our easter egg threat that is Martha to finally enter the scene. DC’s greatest foe. A character that represents everything the DCU now has to put up with. A character who came from another universe and who is set on making sure the Justice League doesn’t have a place to stay. So where is the one place you can find the League with their guard down? The Super Cafe.

It was not easy to make and took way longer than was intended. But I really enjoyed getting to open up our cafe in a direction we’ve never gone before. I hope you enjoy the episode!

10 Star Wars Characters That Almost Looked COMPLETELY Different

10 scrapped Star Wars character designs that could have changed the movies! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/ho3Hg6

You probably know your favorite Star Wars characters extremely well, but we bet we can still surprise you. There are a lot of ideas about some of the most beloved characters that never made it to the big screen. Chewbacca might look like a big fuzzball, but he very nearly looked like a giant lemur instead! The Ewoks look cute and cuddly, but they could have been a lot creepier, and a lot harder to sell merchandise of. Darth Maul went through quite a few changes, and was originally going to be absolutely terrifying, even by Sith lord standards. Another iteration of Darth Maul had him looking much friendly and more like an average citizen. Yoda may live in a swamp, but at least he didn’t have to do so looking like a garden gnome. And Kylo Ren might be a little bit emo, but he was very nearly totally creepy.
