The distraught father of an autistic teenager who is locked up for 24 hours a day without any physical human contact has told Sky News his daughter “is not an animal”.

He says Bethany is sealed in an empty room with no furniture except a single mattress and food is served to her by sliding it across the floor.

Latest figures suggest Bethany is not alone and more than 2,000 people with a learning disability are being wrongly held in mental health units.

Thousands of Los Angeles residents have been told to evacuate because of a fast-moving wildfire.

The fires have already engulfed hundreds of thousands of acres around California’s capital Sacramento and San Francisco.

Six men are being questioned over the disappearance of British backpacker Amelia Bambridge in Cambodia.

The 21-year-old was last seen attending a beach party on the island of Koh Rong.

Around 150 police, navy and military officials are now involved in a land and sea search.
