Jeremy Corbyn has apologised to Labour supporters and acknowledged that his party “came up short” in the General Election.

However, the outgoing Labour leader insists his policies were “genuinely popular” and had “re-set the terms of the debate in the election”.

Despite Labour suffering its worst result since 1935 – with dozens of seats falling to the Tories – Corbyn said he was “proud” the party had offered a message of “hope”.

Omar al Bashir, the former President of Sudan, has been convicted of corruption and money laundering.

The 75-year-old has been sentenced to two years in a reform facility rather than a prison, on account of his age.

Al Bashir is also wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and genocide, linked to the bloody conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region, which began in 2003.
