Seventeen-year-old Katie Winkelman is one of the 40 million people who depend on the Colorado River for water. She’s gotten to know the river, guided by river currents, curiosity, and scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey, and it’s helped her discover the land around her and her place in it. This short film by Freshwaters Illustrated in partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey follows Winkelman as she reflects on her time in one of the United States’ most iconic national parks.
