Andy Coulson in court in Edinburgh

No 10’s former government communications director Andy Coulson was aware that voicemail messages on the phone of the murdered teenager Milly Dowler had been hacked by a News of the World private investigator when he was the paper’s editor.

That’s according to the defunct tabloid’s former Chief Reporter Neville Thurlbeck, who has been giving evidence on the sixth day of Mr Coulson’s perjury trial in Edinburgh. Our reporter James Blake was in court.
