One of the more casual and humorous scenes in The Avengers: Age of Ultron features our collection of heroes hanging out and having a good time. Like any superhero party, one of the topics of discussion that came up was hero weapons, including Thor’s hammer — the Mjolnir. Only those worthy can hold the hammer, but there have been many others who have tried and failed. One of the biggest questions to come from the iconic scene is why couldn’t Captain America himself — Steve Rogers — lift Thor’s hammer?

In the past, we’ve seen Captain America lift the hammer to take on enemies like Thanos, but this was in the pages of comic books and not in the MCU. There are many theories as to why Captain couldn’t lift the hammer and some are surprising while some are funny. Some people actually believe Captain America did lift the hammer. It moved slightly and Thor got a little nervous at first. Was he able to lift it be then pretended he couldn’t?! The hammer itself has a life of its own so maybe Captain America wasn’t allowed to lift it because there was no use for it in the moment?! Maybe Steve Rogers wasn’t worthy of holding it because of the information he had about Tony Stark’s parents? This information led to the events of the Civil War and a lot of distrust between the two characters. Watch to see some of the crazy theories and revisit the great scene in the Age of Ultron!
