Amazing Bird: Age 65, May Have Had 40 Chicks, Traveled Three Million Miles | National Geographic

The world’s oldest known wild bird just hatched a new chick. Wisdom, a Laysan albatross, returns to nest each year at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge in Hawaii. When she was first tagged by scientists in 1956, she was estimated to be at least five years old, which would make her at least 65 today. Albatross mate for life, and Wisdom has outlived several mates. Her current mate, Akeakamai, was watching the latest egg for more than two weeks while Wisdom was away in search of food. The new chick is named Kūkini, Hawaiian for “messenger.”
