China has finally cracked the secret of how to breed pandas in captivity. The country has established a successful breeding program, with the ultimate goal of releasing these captive-bred animals into the wild. With only 1,800 giant pandas left in the world, this is a critical breakthrough for the species’ survival. Photojournalist Ami Vitale talks about her trip to China, where she was given special access to China’s Giant Panda Research Center, photographing these adorable animals and their journey toward being released into the wild.
