Bobby Brown throws a triple cork at Red Bull Megaslope 2013

Check out BONUS footage here: http://goo.gl/pjcY3Q
As the chairlifts at Kirkwood Mountain Resort came to a halt this past spring, the Snow Park Technologies (SPT) snowcats were powering up. For twenty days, an SPT crew of seven professional designers, shapers and builders logged over 1,200 hours constructing the slopestyle course of Bobby Brown’s dreams. Three years ago the Denver, Colorado-based professional athlete was asking his fellow pro skier friends, “What’s next for slopestyle skiing?” His answer is Red Bull Megaslope, a 2,750-foot long course that flawlessly incorporates six epic features winding across the natural terrain of the mountain.

Brown threw a triple cork 1440, followed by a rightside double Japan. It was the first time Brown had landed a triple cork — in this case, four complete rotations with three off-axis flips.

Webb’s Shaping Up: Behind the Webb

The sunshield of the James Webb Space Telescope is made up of five layers of a specially designed material that includes Kapton, aluminum, and silicon. But it’s not only what it’s made of that allows the sunshield to keep the observatory the right temperature to make its observations. Behind the Webb host Mary Estacion takes us to Huntsville, Alabama, to see how engineers are testing each layer of the sunshield.

“Behind the Webb” is an ongoing series that follows the construction of the Webb Space Telescope, Hubble’s successor. Find more episodes at Hubblesite.org.
