Rick and Morty is a show that was made for fan theories. The whole show revolves around the many worlds theory and as such it has multiple alternate universes and multiple great fan theories. The man that travels across space and dimension with his portal gun, is the perfect character to speculate about. There are even fan theories about the very first episode, in particular about the mega seeds. The mega seeds grant whoever uses them super intelligence, and it stands to reason that Rick could be maintaining his status as the Rickest (smartest) Rick by using those seeds.
Some fans also speculate that Rick and Morty might not even be from the same dimension. Could Rick have travelled dimensions after ruining his own world and potentially killing his own family, to take the place of his dead counterpart in Morty’s world? It makes a lot of sense, he has memories of a baby Morty, which shouldn’t be possible if he was absent throughout Morty’s whole childhood. It might even be possible that every episode of the show follows a different Rick and Morty. After all there are a lot of inconsistencies and character development jumping back several episodes depending on the story. If all of these episodes take place in separate realities then it makes a lot more sense than characters unlearning lessons they’ve learned. Not to mention characters like Mr. Poopybutthole just appearing and affecting the world of the show.
