Since the first installment of the franchise was released in 1997, the developers at Rockstar Games have been pushing their series to new heights. From humble beginnings as a top down action adventure game, the series has grown over the years and has become a vast world with the more recent Grand Theft Auto 5. Back in 1997, no one could’ve guessed what the GTA franchise would become nor could they have guessed the massive popularity of the series itself. Gone are the pixelated graphics of the first Grand Theft Auto title and, instead, players are now treated to a beautiful open world.

While the first title in the franchise did have some of the elements fans are used to, it is nothing compared to the GTA Online universe. Outdated graphics and top down gameplay, however, did lay the groundwork for what the series eventually became. Think of the first title in the series as a blueprint for what it has become over the years.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is now several years old and rumors have started circulating that there is a new GTA title coming up; working title Grand Theft Auto 6. While nothing has been substantiated as of 2017, the fanbase has attempted to feel out what may be in store for the next title. Whether these rumors will be substantiated is anyone’s guess and, at the end of the day, only the developers at Rockstar Games know what Grand Theft Auto 6 has in store.
