Video games are just games! Well, according to some non-gamers, that is. Sure, players across the globe can relax in a virtual atmosphere and do basically whatever they want, depending on the game. If guilt free crime is what a player is looking for, there are plenty of games which cater to it. Want to hunt down dragons and learn magic while carrying a sword? RPGs have got you covered! If a player wants to drive fast cars, open a restaurant or travel around in space, there are plenty of games in different genres for every gamer’s taste.

All of the above may make video games seem like simple relaxation devices to help people unwind after work. For the most part, it’s their intention and they do their job well. However, video games aren’t entirely about gaming. The games themselves may be for fun, but the skills learned in a video game can easily be transferred over to real life lessons.

Consider for a moment, the hand eye coordination that it takes to play a video game. It’s a skill which is entirely unintended, yet still learned from and honed in video games. Planning, strategy and being a team player are other lessons which gamers can learn while having fun. After all, without a team and a plan, there is no victory! Some people may even learn cause and effect from playing a game like Minecraft. There are definitely physics lessons to be learned in the game as well! While the main purpose of video games is to have fun, there are plenty of useful life skills to be learned in game as well.
