10 Anime Shows That Were Changed In North America

The anime we get in the West is very different from what they see in Japan! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/ho3Hg6

Sharing movies, television, and animation across the globe is a great way to showcase different art styles and designs. For American audiences, anime has been presented in all different types of ways, but many people may not realize some of the crazy changes that come with these animations. Distribution companies often decide to censor or altar animation to try and better fit the American viewing audience. The result is often a messy and confusing combination of censorship that ultimately feels completely unnecessary.

For example, the show Sailor Moon once featured a lesbian couple named Uranus and Neptune, but in the American version they were changed to cousins– extremely close cousins. A headless corpse is something children don’t see everyday, but the censorship is a little too obvious and cheap looking. Guns have been used in animation for years, but for some reason an episode Yu-Gi-Oh replaced a pair of guns with some pointing fingers. Driving safety is important in America, but we’re pretty sure children wouldn’t be too impacted by a two second clip of a Sailor Moon character strapped into the vehicle. The Three Lights is a fictional band who appeared in Sailor Moon and when they are not performing, they are dressed up as female heroes, but their whole transsexual element from completely censored. Sonic the Hedgehog has been adapted numerous times and American audiences got to enjoy the show Sonic X despite some extremely weird censorship issues. Watch to see all these crazy censorships from your favorite anime!
