The Ineos Grenadier is a vehicle made in response to Land Rover halting production of their classic Defender, much-unchanged after almost seven decades in constant production. The idea from Ineos – a petrochemical company who have never before ventured into the automotive world – was to modernise the Defender experience, without losing its charm.

So how did they do? And more importantly, how does it stack up to the vehicle which came in to replace the original? The Defender 130 is bigger, heavier, and a lot more expensive – three things not often associated with superiority when it comes to beating around off road, but does its suite of advanced electronics and luxury creature comforts help to overcome for its extra heft out in the trails?
