في تمام الساعة الثالثة وأربعين دقيقة من صباح يوم 31 من أغسطس لسنة 1888، يتعثر تشارلز لاتشمير خلال عودته من العمل في منطقة وايت تشابل بلندن بامرأة ملقاة علي الرصيف، وفي غضون ثواني يظهر روبرت بول من وسط الضباب ويساعد تشارلز في افاقة تلك المرأة المستلقية كما لو كانت في حالة سكر، الظلام مخيم على المكان ولم يتمكنا من رؤيتها بوضوح إلى أن وصل شخص يدعي جون نيل John Neil وبيده مصباح ليكتشف الثلاثة رجال الصدمة، لم تكن مغمي عليها لقد كانت ميتة، بالمعني الادق، مقتولة، الضحية الاولي للقاتل الأشهر في لندن المعروف باسم جاك السفاح، وعلى مدار السبعين يوم التالية عُثِر علي جثث لأربع ضحايا جُدد لسيدات ايضاً ما أثار رعب الانجليز والعالم أجمع وجعل من جاك سفاح واحداً من اشهر السفاحين على مرٌ العصور، جثث مشوهة بطريقة وحشية وجرائم غامضة دامت لمدة شهرين وبضعة أيام قبل أن تتوقف تماماً وتنقطع أية أخبار عن جاك السفاح، فمَن ذلك السفاح الغامض الذي أثار كل تلك الضجة!؟ وكيف حُلَت قضيته!؟
