We’re familiar enough with the Ferrari 296 GTB to say that we absolutely love it. Ferrari took a risk when they decided to fit it with a hybrid V6 powertrain, but it certainly paid off – it’s something of a benchmark for other cars in class, combining a genuinely fun driving experience with a frankly ludicrous amount of speed.

Well, now there’s a convertible version. It’s got the same 819bhp setup as the coupe, and Ferrari says that it’s just as fast. However, convertible supercars can be a bit hit or miss – the lack of a solid roof means that you need extra strengthening throughout, which can add a fair chunk of weight, and if there isn’t enough of it then the driving experience can be seriously compromised when compared to its hardtop counterpart.

So, has Ferrari managed to create an open-top 296 that drives just as well as the coupe? Join Richard Lane as attacks the mountain passes of Italy to find out.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS has always been a benchmark setter.

One thing has certainly been true of the five previous GT3 RS generations (not counting the mid-life updates) – they’ve all been true class leaders. In every case, contemporary rivals from Ferrari, Lamborghini and everyone else wouldn’t see which way the flat-six beasts went on a racetrack, thanks to powerful engines, low weight figures and enough aerodynamic features to make a fighter pilot jealous.

But now, there’s a new one. Porsche says that this car is the most “track-focused” GT3 RS ever, and at a glance that certainly seems to be the case – there are few road cars with wings as extreme as this. It’s also the only road car aside from the McLaren P1 to feature a DRS system, something normally reserved purely for F1 cars.

So, is it as fast as its fellow circuit heroes? And perhaps more importantly, is it even more fun than its fantastic little brother, the Porsche 911 GT3?

This is the new 2023 Range Rover Sport, Land Rover’s latest luxurious SUV.

It’s based on the same architecture that underpins the latest full-fat Range Rover, which means it’s a largely aluminium 4×4 that’s very much full-size for Europe – not so huge by US standards.

The range is incredibly broad, from diesels through to a V8, but here Matt Prior is testing the plug-in hybrid, badged P510e.

That combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor with its oomph provided by a 31.8kWh battery. The car has 503bhp, which is good enough for a 5.4sec 0-62mph time and a 150mph top speed. It also has a 70 mile electric-only range if you start fully charged.

In the UK, the Range Rover Sport range starts from around £80,000 and this particular model from £112,040.
