Firefox 4 Beta Hands On

Download Firefox 4 Beta 1: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/

In this video I give you a hands on with Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 1. Firefox 4 brings with it some major improvements over Firefox 3.6 including a totally reworked interface with full support for Windows 7 including deep integration with Aero Glass as well as Aero Peek. The tabs are now on top of the browser, similar to Opera and Chrome which makes Firefox look much more streamlined. If you like however you can very simply rearrange things to look similar to the outgoing Firefox.

Speed is another improvement. In my brief testing Firefox 4 was somewhat faster than Firefox 3.6.6 but still lagged behind Safari 5, Chrome 5 and Opera 10.6. However in real world browsing I found that Firefox 4 felt considerably faster than it’s predecessor and much closer to the competition than the numbers would make it seem.

In this video I give my predictions on what we can expect in Windows 8, the next version of the Microsoft operating system. Recently some slides on Windows 8 were leaked and detailed several ideas such as a Windows App Store, USB 3.0 support and facial recognition log in.

I also discuss my thoughts on what the operating system will have such as faster boot times, a reworked interface as well as a ground up redesign to improve speed, security and usability.

Benoit Mandelbrot: Fractals and the art of roughness

http://www.ted.com At TED2010, mathematics legend Benoit Mandelbrot develops a theme he first discussed at TED in 1984 — the extreme complexity of roughness, and the way that fractal math can find order within patterns that seem unknowably complicated.

D3Live: Best Upcoming Games of 2010

In this episode of D3Live I discuss my picks for the best upcoming games of 2010. The year already has been fantastic for games on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii as well as for the PC and the second half of 2010 looks just as solid. I talk about Portal 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Halo: Reach, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (which is a 2011 release) and lastly but certainly not least Gears of War 3. All in all it’s shaping up to be a great year for video games.

D3Live is a weekly show I do live on BlogTV every weekend (usually on Saturday). If you are interested in asking me questions for the video or just watching the show live keep an eye out as I will post a video here on YouTube before I begin. http://www.blogtv.com/People/duncan33303

How To Get Game Center on iOS 4

Twitter: http://twitter.com/duncan33303

Site: http://stateofjailbreak.com

In this video I show you how to get Game Center on your iPhone or iPod touch on iOS 4. It is a very simple process that requires you to put the iOS 4 Gold Master on your device which is almost identical to the standard iOS 4. Practically the only difference is that it comes with Game Center preinstalled.

There are a few requirements however. You will need a Windows or Mac computer that is running iTunes 9.2 and either an iPod touch 2G, iPod touch 3G, iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. iOS 4 (and therefore Game Center) is not supported on the iPod touch 1G or the iPhone 2G. In addition there is no Gold Master version of iOS 4 for the iPhone 4.

Once you have backed up your device and restored iOS 4 GM onto it you should have Game Center. There isn’t much to do in it as of yet however so this is only for people who just don’t want to wait for it to be released in a later update.

iPhone OS 3 vs. iOS 4 Speed Test

Twitter: http://twitter.com/duncan33303

Site: http://stateofjailbreak.com

In this video I compare iPhone OS 3 to iOS 4 in a head to head speed matchup. I loaded a fresh install of iPhone OS 3.1.2 on my iPod touch 2G and then did the same with iOS 4. I ran several tests of the Safari browser that includes repeatedly opening websites over Wi-Fi and filming the results. I then did some general tests of the Maps application including timing the loading time and general speed and responsiveness. Lastly I timed opening up the graphically intense application Real Racing multiple times on both operating systems to see if there was any difference.

Many people have reported that apps seem both faster and slower in some cases on iOS 4 so I decided to do a full test of a few major aspects of the operating systems to try and shed some light on the situation.
