8 Bit Pocket Camera is a fun app that turns the camera on your device into something very similar to the original Game Boy Camera. While it’s not for everyone it’s a fun app for $0.99.

Ai Weiwei detained. Here is his TED film

http://www.ted.com The news that Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has been detained by authorities has prompted significant concern here at TED-HQ. We had shown a film of him at last month’s conference, an unexpected and courageous statement about his treatment by the government, social change, the power of the web, and his hope for the future of China. The film, which was shown as Ai Weiwei himself watched live over the web in the middle of the night, prompted a huge standing ovation from the TED audience.

TED is a non-partisan, nonpolitical organization and we understand the Chinese authorities concern at anything which might provoke social unrest. But for anyone who believes in the power of ideas, of human imagination, it is heartbreaking to see one of the world’s great artists shackled in this way. We will be tracking developments carefully. Here is the film.

D3Live: Best Tablet? iPad 2, XOOM, PlayBook or TouchPad

In this episode of D3Live I take a look at what is the best tablet for you.

Twitter: http://twitter.com/duncan33303

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/duncan33303fan

With so many tablets being released today on D3Live I take a look at several of the prominent tablet PCs including the Apple iPad 2, Motorola XOOM, RIM BlackBerry PlayBook and the HP Palm TouchPad. The iPad 2 runs iOS and has the clear advantage when it comes to apps, however the XOOM has access to the wide variety of Android applications and has support for Flash and Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The BlackBerry PlayBook is coming soon and should be a serious contender with a smaller 7″ display, the unique RIM QNX operating system and some very slick features such as a touch sensitive bezel. Lastly we have an entry by HP and Palm, the TouchPad powered by webOS. This could very well sweep the market when it comes out with a powerful processor and an excellent OS.

D3Live is a weekly show I do live every Saturday at 3PM Eastern time live on BlogTV. If you are interested in asking me questions for the video or just watching the show live keep an eye out as I will post a video here on YouTube before I begin. http://www.blogtv.com/people/duncan33303

Google’s driverless car | Sebastian Thrun

http://www.ted.com Sebastian Thrun helped build Google’s amazing driverless car, powered by a very personal quest to save lives and reduce traffic accidents. Jawdropping video shows the DARPA Challenge-winning car motoring through busy city traffic with no one behind the wheel, and dramatic test drive footage from TED2011 demonstrates how fast the thing can really go.

Patricia Ryan: Don’t insist on English!

http://www.ted.com At TEDxDubai, longtime English teacher Patricia Ryan asks a provocative question: Is the world’s focus on English preventing the spread of great ideas in other languages? (For instance: what if Einstein had to pass the TOEFL?) It’s a passionate defense of translating and sharing ideas.

The genius puppetry behind War Horse | Handspring Puppet Company

http://www.ted.com “Puppets always have to try to be alive,” says Adrian Kohler of the Handspring Puppet Company, a gloriously ambitious troupe of human and wooden actors. Beginning with the tale of a hyena’s subtle paw, puppeteers Kohler and Basil Jones build to the story of their latest astonishment: the wonderfully life-like Joey, the War Horse, who trots (and gallops) convincingly onto the TED stage.
